National Autistic Society

Home-Start Essex-Epping Forest Area

Following an initial training course, volunteers will be matched to a family with young children who are experiencing stress or difficult circumstances. The volunteer needs to have 3 hours a week spare to visit at a mutually convenient time and offer friendship, encouragement and practical help.

Loughton Voluntary Care

The group is open to all comers on a drop-in basis. Most regular attendees are older people who enjoy getting out of the house and having some fun. Scrabble and cribbage feature heavily, there are a number of other board and card games available, as are refreshments. The volunteer role is to be an active part of the team hosting the group. Café Clare runs every Friday morning 9:30am-12pm at St Clare Hospice. It’s a group for patients who have completed a Day Therapy group, or been a patient of another St Clare service, and who want to gain some support from their peers on an informal basis. Our Café Clare group offers patients the chance to meet others socially, in a relaxed and friendly environment, for coffee and cake. Volunteers help facilitate the group by meeting and greeting, making drinks, and helping people settle in and make connections with peers.

The role is two-fold – partly communicating with teams to ensure they complete their own audits, and partly undertaking some elements of audits yourself. In both cases you will then play an important role in analysing the results that come back and writing reports on findings.

Tasks will include:  Prompt clinical teams to complete their own audits in line with our pre-agreed audit programme.  Check with teams on the progress of the audits to ensure they remain on track. Undertaking audits yourself by making assessments against pre-existing pro forma.

A methodical approach. Attention to detail. Excellent computer skills – confident using Microsoft Word, Outlook, and particularly Excel to analyse data, and create charts and graphs.

People living with a life-limiting or terminal illness often struggle with loneliness and social isolation. Compassionate Neighbours can really make a difference and offer some extra support. They are a network of trained volunteers who offer their time, companionship and a listening ear to people living in their community who are coping with illness or old age. You will be assigned a ‘Community Member’ who you would visit on a weekly basis. You would meet on a social and emotional basis, have a chat and a cup of tea or even go out together to help that person access the local community.

As a volunteer driver you will be ensuring that all our lovely customers are collected and transported to the club safely and of course taken back home again after. This role will involve collecting the community mini bus from its location and working from a passenger list to establish your route.  VAEF Gardening service provides a practical service which enables people to go on living independently. The project also brings together clients and volunteers who benefit from the social interaction of helping clients and working with other volunteer gardeners (we work in teams to make the tasks more fun!).Most of the work involves simple weeding, pruning, mowing or trimming.
