Organisation Gunpowder Parkrun

Description

What is Gunpowder parkrun?

It is a free 5km run – it’s you against the clock.

When is it? Every Saturday at 9:00am.

Where is it? Gunpowder Park, Stewardstone Road, Waltham Abbey, EN9 3GP

What would I do at the Event?

You could be organising the finish funnel, operating the timer, or scanning the runners’ barcodes with our simple barcode readers;

We try to start people out on a general marshalling type job, so they get a feel for how we operate.

We never ask anybody to do anything they’re not comfortable with.

If you don’t want a particular task, please let us know and we will happily give you an alternative job.

Nevertheless, none of our tasks are too stressful. But if you really want to do something in particular, please let us know and we’ll see what we can do.

Organisation Barnardo’s Essex Child and Family Wellbeing Service- West Essex

Description

Assist the staff with setting out resources and activities and provide appropriate support.

Be a role model, interacting with children to support their development.

Join in with songs and story-time as required.

Clean and tidy away resources at the end of the session.

Be reliable and adaptable. Treat all people equally and with respect, being fair, honest and considerate. Be tolerant and understanding towards people from different social, religious, ethical and cultural backgrounds.

Organisation Lee Valley Regional Park Authority

Description

Regular commitment (particularly weekends and school holidays) to drive the tractor and 30 person trailer 1 mile up and down a private road in between the main visitor attraction and its satellite milking parlour.

To let people on and off the 30 person trailer.

To try to answer basic public questions on farming and milking.

 

Skills

Good health and physically fit.

Keen interest in farming.

Organisation Voluntary Action Epping Forest

Description

Are you kind, friendly and non-judgmental? Are you interested in health and enthusiastic about helping others to achieve their goals? If so this is the role for you!

The purpose of this role is to provide “Front of house” support for a weight management Drop-

In once a week at Waltham Abbey Museum.

What you’ll be doing:

– Meeting and greeting people, offering a warm and friendly welcome to the session.

– Explaining how the programme works (full training will be given)

– Weighing clients & recording their progress

– Handing out relevant supporting materials (leaflets, hand-outs etc.)

Skills

You will be kind, approachable and sympathetic. A non-judgmental attitude is key.

You’ll be enthusiastic and positive for people and their goals – weight-loss is difficult and everyone needs some encouragement!

You’ll be a good listener, able to chat to people from different backgrounds.

Organisation Epping Forest District Council

Description

Epping Forest District Community Health and Wellbeing Team are looking for volunteers.

We are looking for volunteers gardeners to join our garden club sessions at the Epping Forest Museum in the Waltham Abbey garden. We meet on Wednesdays every week from 2pm – 4pm. No experience needed, we welcome complete beginners to advance. The sessions are educational and people who come along will learn something new and will make new friends too. Each week we do something new. Some area of education include how to plant seeds, how to look after produce and how to gain new growing confidence.

Each week we will help to maintain the raised vegetable bed area and will look after the mushrooms we are growing along with the plants. Some weeks we will be Deadheading, feeding etc.

None we welcome beginners to the garden club team and the advanced.

Organisation Isabel Hospice Shop Waltham Abbey

Description

To help in a charity shop to raise as much money as possible for Isabel Hospice. You will be helping to do a wide range of activities some of which we have listed: using till, tagging clothes, filling shelves, window displays, interacting with customers.

No formal qualifications are needed for this role. Full training will be given.

A unique volunteering role for 2.5 – 3 hours per week. Become a Community Host for a weekly social group for older people. We are currently looking for Community Hosts for each of our clubs based in either Ongar or Nazeing.
